Super Mario Galaxy Film Trailer Debuts, Introducing Fresh Faces Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Actors

Nintendo alongside Illumination shared the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. This occurred during a dedicated Nintendo presentation that centered on the forthcoming animated feature.

Following up on the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the far corners of the cosmos. In his journey, he meets a new princess and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.

An Interstellar Journey Drawing from Beloved Titles

In the vein of the Wii-era games that serve as its inspiration, Mario will depart from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. On his epic voyage, he will reunite with some recognizable characters, for instance the Luma, a fan favorite from the original cinematic release.

But it appears Mario and his sibling Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who seemingly utilizes powers related to metal. Notably, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also includes nods to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Star-Studded Voice Cast Returns and Expands

The feature will see the return of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.

A Big Year for Mario

Mario's latest cinematic adventure is scheduled to arrive around the time of the 40th anniversary of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 promises to be a major period for Mario and his companions.

Nintendo has three new games officially announced for the upcoming year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Premiere Date Announced

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
