In the episode, a flashback reveals that fan-favorite character Alastor, the Radio Demon was a mass murderer in his mortal days. Knowing full well he was destined for Hell, he made contact with the afterlife in advance to obtain a strong position in Hell. Rosie, the charismatic leader the cannibal faction in Hell, promised Alastor he would become “the strongest Sinner in Hell” in exchange for his eternal spirit.

This raises an important query: In what way is Rosie powerful enough to elevate Alastor over all other Sinner Demons?

“The agreement between Rosie and Alastor is the first stepping stone in a larger narrative that involves a great deal, moving into the third season,” the creator explains. “Obviously that is an excellent question: How is she that powerful? The answer might be many things, but the answer is in season 3. I'm very excited for people to witness it.”

It is uncertain how long viewers will have to remain for Hazbin Hotel’s next season. The studios have green-lit seasons 3 and 4, but the showrunner often notes that animated production is a slow, lengthy process, and subsequent seasons have no release dates yet. Still, she says withholding on specific information is an important part of maintaining the second season's focus where it belongs.

“The difficulty of any agreement with infernal beings, or stories that have enigmas, is giving people just enough information to be like, Something's up here, and then unveiling that gradually, and letting that be gratifying,” she comments. “So I am quite eager.”

Mysteries Resolved in The Next Season

The showrunner promises that season 3 will address the queries followers have been asking, such as why the cannibal leader commanded Alastor to disappear for seven years, which diminished his influence in the infernal realm.

“The whole seven years, and the pacts these humans are doing, and everything — it contributes to a bigger narrative,” she says.

In the meantime, the Rosie/Alastor backstory episode offers another glimpse into what the core cast of Sinner Demons looked like as mortals, the second after seeing another character's historical mortal appearance in the second episode. The creator says that a lot of thought went into the visual creation of these forms.

“The mortal forms of these personas hold so much weight,” she notes. “They range from looking quite distinct from their infernal version to looking almost identical. With the first character, the initial design we see, there was a little bit of a debate internally between going with something that represents the character, as opposed to selecting an option that's historically correct. We leaned toward creating a design that just felt like it was him.”

She mentions the biggest debate over Pentious’ human design was his long hair: “We were like, ‘No one typically had extended hair of that style in that historical period.’ But simultaneously, we believe the silhouette is extremely crucial, and we also just felt he appeared attractive. We were like, ‘This seems correct.’ We kind of provided the rationale that he's a hermit, so he just let his hair grow out. So there is always a solution. As we design the mortal forms of these personas […] it's such a fun thing to explore and figure out. I am looking forward for fans to view additional of what the human forms look like.”
